McCullouch's response to Monroe accusations; Changed Name Undone

CAMPAIGN UPDATE: In response to Mr. Monroe’s accusations of marital infidelity: “I think it is preposterous that my opponent would actually generate such untruths- that have interestingly popped up right after the straw poll results and on the eve of early voting. I will admit to any sin, but I will never admit to something I did not do. Also, I want to thank the hundreds who have called to say, ‘it’s going to be okay. You can get through this.’ This is politics at its nastiest form- that I would never suspect could happen in our great community. For any part that I have played in negative campaigning, I apologize to the citizens.” “I will admit to his allegations of divorce but certainly NOT because of marital infidelity. I’m sure my opponent could hand you the court orders to substantiate this. It’s not something I have ever hidden from and is a part of my testimony.” “In fact, kneeling on the floor of a hotel room in Jackson, MS in 2001, in the days following divorce is when and where I became a Christian. The only positive side of this is that I have become more and more dependent on my Savior every day. Mary Beth and I have been happily married for 6 years and we have a precious 3 1/2 old daughter.” “I would encourage my opponent to end his campaign strong. It’s literally anybody’s election. At the start of this campaign I will be the first to admit, I was a longshot. I was not born and raised in Kerrville, Texas. In June, my wife and I will have only lived in Texas for four years. But, I have been a full-time prosecutor for eight years- in two jurisdictions, and I am licensed to practice in both the state courts of two States, and in front of the Federal 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Even though at the beginning I was the longshot candidate, I believe we can and will win. These last few days before early voting will be spent only on positives. That is the American way, and I want everybody to know if I lose this race it will be with dignity and honor- not by throwing stones.” ............. By popular demand, I'm reposting the link to the Scott Monroe traffic stop DVD. I will extend the same courtesy - I'll print word for word any comment he wants to make about the stop. ......... Back to Judges and Lawyers Hall of Shame I got several questions and complaints about my short-lived change of this blog's name. I feel a little like Coca-Cola when it changed its product's name to New Coke. I have a good readership that's taken a lot of time and effort to build, so I'm going back to Judges and Lawyers Hall of Shame. The race between Scott Monroe and Brad McCullouch just gets nastier and nastier. I think McCullouch needs to make a public statement denying the accusations. Ignoring them is given the impression that they are true. Only the people involved know the truth. If asked who I want to see elected, I would say that even if the rumors are true, I've heard rumors of similar conduct by Monroe, but have no evidence, and if I did, the race is so divisive and ugly I wouldn't want to throw more gas on the fire. That said, based on the traffic stop dvd and the fact that he's backed by the same machine that has made the 198th District a disgrace for the last ten years, I'll take a chance that the outsider will not be corrupt.

    1. Why was this post removed? It was up for several days and was approved originally. Is Brad now is charge of the Blog and is he the new censor? This post did contain some obvious satire, but there was nothing offensive or out of line. Do posts now need to agree with the ideas (stock ideas of the times) of 38 year old Brad McCullough?

    3. This blog is like Fox News - fair and impartial. If you don't like this blog, start your own.

  2. Actually, Brad does not owe any sort of explanation to anyone. He would have been better served by keeping his mouth shut. All he has done now is give the vultures more fodder to feed on.

  3. After usurping about all the entertainment value I can from the 198th DA race, I wanted to share some thoughts as to why Kerrville has such horrible problems with the people that desperately want to occupy that position. The problem is the culture. Kerrville is extremely punitive. The people love to dish out harsh punishment for those that don’t look like them, think like them, talk like them and believe what they believe in. For prosecutor to be popular, he (or she) must put away certain types of criminals for long prison terms. It reaffirms the “goodness” of the locals and makes them feel powerful. To achieve this, prosecutors must engage in all kinds of nasty tactics, like luring poor, young drug addicts into school zones for a minor drug transaction and then hit them with a 20 year jail term. Most people with a conscience just can’t do this day in and day out. There is, however, one group that can. Those without conscience, or border line sociopaths, with all of the baggage that comes with it. This is what it takes to be a POPULAR DA in Kerrville. Until the culture changes, we are stuck with the Brad’s, Ron’s, Amos’s and Scott’s of the world.

  4. Have you ever been a crime victim; testified against the animal that raped you; watched your rapist get a guilty verdict; and then smirk at you as he walked out of the courtroom ON PROBATION?!?! I had that experience, and the rapist was very young, so some people wanted to give him a break! Of course, he immediately violated probation. If you had experienced that, you would understand why victims and prosecutors feel so strongly about putting away crimninals for long prison terms. When prisoners are given lenghthy prison sentences, they only serve a tiny portion of that time. I felt the same way that you do, prior to becoming a victim. Prosecutors see criminals beat the system every day, so that is probably why they feel so strongly about locking up criminals. I pray that you never have the devestating experience that I had as a crime victim. My life has been changed forever, and will never return to normal again. As a victim, I will always vote for the prosecutor that is toughest on crime!

    1. Well said. I've had my home burglarized and my car, and it takes a long time to get over it. Those are nothing compared to what happened to you, and I agree - it sounds like your attacker should have gone to the pen for a long, long time.
For non violent offenses an inmate does about 2.5 yrs for every 10 sentenced. If they stopped sending nonviolent minor drug offenders to prison they would free up space for the real predators.

    2. I agree, Kerrville appears highly punitive with some things. It seems those who appear in need of leniancy do not always obtain it. I guess belief in a "just world" is something we all would feel more comfortable with. I am curious to see how the Kerr county courts will respond to a child support arrears of 344,000. Unfortunately, sometimes the sociopaths do prevail. I agree with the individual who posted an unfortunate story with the courts, those in need of protection feeling further victimized, that there is a time when a strong prosecutor is needed to ensure justice prevails.

  5. No one is talking about the substantive issues with the 198th. In typical Kerrville style, the interest is in whether the candidates live up to the provincial, puritanical sexual legalisms. I could care less.
I read in the KDT the other day that the 198th police…”the bloodhound” found another large stash of cash by way of a traffic stop. It seems a little strange to me he never finds dope, which must be destroyed, but always finds cash, which the DA’s office gets to keep. I think he is using information that is obtained illegally. Cash can be moved a 1000 ways, dope must be physically moved from point A to point B. It stands to reason there is much more dope moving down IH 10 than illegal cash but the bloodhound’s nose seems to be tuned to cash.
The Kerrville police patrol IH10 and they can’t find cash like the “bloodhound”. Is it because he is smarter? I don’t think so. Rusty patrols IH10 and he can’t find the cash like the bloodhound. Maybe it is because Rusty and the KPD are playing by the rules.

  6. I am just now able to think about all of this. I know 4 years have passed and chances are no one cares and no one will read this. So anyone who might, should obviously know that I will gain nothing from this. But, someone needs to know. All of the accusations against Brad are true. I know because I was one of several young women that Brad manipulated and lied to and then scared to the point where we felt like we had to lie. He is very charming and sweet, which makes him very dangerous. Someone please read this and wake up. He is a serial predator. It will come out again one day. I hate myself for not testifying when I had the chance. Now he is probably doing this all over again.
