Pervert Cop, Houston Ambulance Chasing Ring, Gay Marriage Distraction

Officer on trial for failure to register as sex offender
Twenty years after Daniel Casas Jr. received deferred adjudication probation for child molestation, a detective with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office went to his China Grove home to notify him that the law had changed and that he needed to re-register as a sex offender.

What Detective Mario Enriquez found outside the residence was unexpected, he told jurors Tuesday as Casas' trial began. The sex offender was behind the wheel of a China Grove Police Department squad car, in uniform, he recalled of the June 2011 encounter.

After Drug Lab Scandal, Court Continues to Reverse Convictions
from the Texas Tribune
The Court of Criminal Appeals is expected to reverse the convictions of more drug offenders on Wednesday after investigators from the Texas Forensic Science Commission found that a former employee with a Department of Public Safety crime lab in Houston may have fabricated the results of thousands of drug tests.

Houston Area State Rep, 6 Other Lawyers Charged with Barratry (Ambulance Chasing)
From the Texas Tribune:
Nearly a month after the Harris County District Attorney dropped barratry charges against Rep. Ron Reynolds, D-Missouri City, the personal injury attorney faces a new round of legal trouble.
According to KHOU-TV in Houston, the Montgomery County district attorney has issued arrest warrants for Reynolds and seven other Houston-area attorneys on barratry charges connected to an alleged quarter-million-dollar kickback scheme. Authorities raided the offices of all of those individuals, as well as two chiropractic offices, on Monday morning searching for evidence of a conspiracy to lure patients, inflate injuries and bank millions of dollars from fraudulent insurance claims.

Court Weighs Gay Marriage
Skeptical Justices Challenge Both Sides; Kennedy Warns of 'Uncharted Waters'

I have a theory to explain why so much attention is paid by politicians and Big Media to the whole gay marriage thing. I believe it is part of the same conspiracy to distract the citizens from the Government's total incompetence at most functions, and its steady assault on our basic freedoms under the Bill of Rights - to privacy, the right to own guns and ammo, and not to have our property confiscated, and the right not to be killed by a drone because the president decides you are a threat to national security.
If all the homosexuals and lesbians in this country got married, how many people would that be? How could it possibly affect national security, the economy, the job market, or anything else of consequence? On the other side, if gays are free to live together in peace, why do they have to force the rest of society to give an official stamp of approval on conduct the Bible clearly condemns?
But the right wingers and Bible thumpers are obsessed, and the lefties and MSM are equally fixated, proving Eric Hoffer's old point that the extremists on each end are basically alike, true believers.

Don't These People Watch T.V.?

The San Antonio Express reports that "a USAA attorney was arrested over the weekend in Cedar Park, where authorities said he was expecting to meet a 14-year-old girl he'd propositioned online.

Officers with the Texas attorney general's Cyber Crimes Unit arrested Robert Michael Bohanek, 44, on Saturday on one count of online solicitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.... According to a news release from the AG's office, Bohanek initiated and then participated in “sexually graphic online chats with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl,” but was really an undercover cyber crimes officer. The release says Bohanek and the “girl” also exchanged text messages and emails, and he texted photographs of women's clothing."

Online sex scam/blackmail led to A&M prof's suicide San Antonio Express News
"A Louisiana man is accused of using an underage female relative to lure a Texas A&M University professor into a sexually explicit online relationship that ended with blackmail demands and the professor leaping to his death from atop a campus parking garage.

The charges, filed in Houston, clear up some of the mystery surrounding why James Arnt Aune, 59, who chaired the school's department of communication, committed suicide on Jan. 8."

One of the t.v. networks, ABC, I think, has a regular program called To Catch a Predator, where grown men get caught trying to meet underaged girls for sex. How dumb can you be?

Habeas writs on Brady violations, corrupt DPS lab tech, and update on my Slave Ranch book

Fifth Circuit orders review of habeas application for notorious Austin convicted murderer
(Hill Country connection)
The Austin American Statesman reports:
Six years after a string of unsuccessful appeals, Colton Pitonyak, convicted in one of Austin’s most notorious slayings, has a chance at a new trial.
The former University of Texas student is serving a 55-year sentence for the 2005 slaying of Jennifer Cave, who was shot and found dismembered and mutilated in the bathtub of his West Campus apartment. But defense attorneys Joe Turner and Christopher M. Perri have long argued that it was Laura Ashley Hall, his friend and accomplice, who killed the 21-year-old woman out of passionate jealousy.
In the 5th Circuit petition, as in a slew of previous filings, Turner and Perri say the state withheld a jail record that could have altered the defense strategy of his lawyers at the time. The document, filled out of by a Travis County sheriff’s office employee, says two inmates said Hall confessed that she killed Cave and “was acting crazy on purpose.”
“That whore deserved to die,” an inmate is quoted. “She was just a dancer anyway.”

Kathryn Casey's book A Descent Into Hell: The True Story of an Altar Boy, a Cheerleader, and a Twisted Texas Murder shows just how twisted these two monsters are. She helped her boyfriend Pitonyak decapitate and butcher Cave, before running off to Mexico like they were a couple of outlaws. Her favorite expression was "that's just how we roll." Hall was living in a trailer park in Bandera County when she was arrested.

Major Scandal in DPS Crime Lab
Grits for Breakfast as usual is covering real news that the MSM largely ignores. Today's headline:
CCA habeas roundup: Four more free from Salvador crime lab debacle, an actual innocence writ on pot possession, and death sentence overturned.
"The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issued four new habeas writs on yesterday's hand down list that will result in four more people with drug offenses from Galveston County being released whose sentences between them totaled 29.5 years because of alleged misconduct by former DPS crime lab worker Jonathan Salvador in Houston. These writs bring the total released up to 16 convictions reversed, with sentences totaling 127.5 years so far."

Update on my Slave Ranch book.
I have temporarily taken my book about the Texas Slave Ranch down from Amazon.Kindle. A reader alerted me that the format in the excerpt Kindle posted was messed up. People are starting to buy it. I got one 5 star review (the reader compared the story to Ed Gein, the real life model for Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs and the Texas Chain Saw Massacre), a 4 star review, and a 1 star from someone who said he or she couldn't believe Amazon allowed it to be published. I don't know if the one star review is a descendant of the inbred Ellebracht clan - probably not, since I doubt they can ever read.

Here's a poem that law enforcement found when they searched the ranch, probably written by Walter Wesley Ellebracht, Jr.

The Shack
I know a place where they have a shack.
When you say shack you think of a broken down building.
But this is not a broken down building at all.
This shack is commonly known as a tube shack. Why?
Because it is made of tubes. Yes, innertubes.
No your not crazey.
No your not dreaming.
Yes your wide awake.
Yes you are now in the twilite zone.
Where there is no escape.
Where your night mare become realiety.
So just relax and enjoy.
Fore here is where you will spend the rest of your life.

FBI Investigates Big Gun Plaintiff Lawyer; DPS Drug Lab Scandal

Lawyer Watts quits BP fight amid probe
In the face of a federal investigation into the legitimacy of his client list, nationally known San Antonio plaintiffs lawyer and Democrat stalwart Mikal C. Watts has resigned from litigation over the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Watts tendered his resignation recently from the plaintiffs' steering committee, an exclusive group of lawyers handling tens of thousands of claims against BP and other companies that settled over the disaster.

Watts is known for donating more than $7 million to Democratic campaigns in San Antonio, in Texas and in national races.

Last July, he held a private $35,800-a-plate fundraiser at his home in The Dominion for President Barack Obama.
Watts' resignation comes three weeks after the San Antonio Express-News first reported that the Secret Service raided his two law offices in Northwest San Antonio, and confirmed with authorities that they were part of a federal investigation into his client list in the BP litigation.

The New York Times first reported in 2011 that Watts was accused of discrepancies in the litigation against BP as he made his way onto the plaintiffs steering committee. A large list of clients can help secure a seat on the committee.

Thousands of drug cases may be overturned because DPS lab worker allegedly faked results
Grits has already expressed amazement that a scandal involving a fired DPS crime lab worker who allegedly fabricated test results - and who performed controlled substances testing in nearly 5,000 drug cases - has received so little press attention, suggesting that the episode may result in the courts overturning hundreds of cases with sentences collectively totaling more than 10,000 years. As it turns out, I may have underestimated the scope of this fiasco.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals recently began overturning old convictions based on this episode, starting with instances where evidence was destroyed post-conviction, making retesting impossible. The general counsel at the Texas Forensic Science Commission has estimated that evidence was destroyed in 25-50% of cases where Jonathan Salvador performed testing. In several cases, however, including, e.g., one styled Ex Parte Patrick Lynn Hobbs, the high court ruled that, "While there is evidence remaining that is available to retest in this case, that evidence was in the custody of the lab technician in question. This Court believes his actions are not reliable; therefore custody was compromised, resulting in a due process violation. Applicant is therefore entitled to relief." In other words, it may not matter whether evidence is available for retesting or not.

Why is the Government Buying Up all the Ammo?
All the sporting goods stores (Walmart, Gibson's, etc.) are sold out of ammo. You can't even find .22 ammo. Why?
The Government is buying it all, supposedly for training. See Why is the Department of Homeland Security buying so many bullets?
The Homeland Security Department wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years. It says it needs them -- roughly the equivalent of five bullets for every person in the United States -- for law enforcement agents in training and on duty.

Published federal notices about the ammo buy have agitated conspiracy theorists since the fall. That's when conservative radio host Alex Jones spoke of an "arms race against the American people" and said the government was "gearing up for total collapse, they're gearing up for huge wars." Forbes reports that Add to this perplexing outrĂ© purchase of ammo, DHS now is showing off its acquisition of heavily armored personnel carriers, repatriated from the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation. As observed by “paramilblogger” Ken Jorgustin last September:

[T]he Department of Homeland Security is apparently taking delivery (apparently through the Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico VA, via the manufacturer – Navistar Defense LLC) of an undetermined number of the recently retrofitted 2,717 ‘Mine Resistant Protected’ MaxxPro MRAP vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.”

These MRAP’s ARE BEING SEEN ON U.S. STREETS all across America by verified observers with photos, videos, and descriptions.”
