TEXAS BORDER: PROSECUTOR CHARGED FOR ALLEGED CORRUPTION
TEXAS--Antonio “Tony” Reyes faces charges for conspiracy to accept cash in exchange for the dismissal of criminal charges in cases where he was working as an assistant district attorney in El Paso. According to an article in the El Paso Times, Reyes is expected to plead guilty next week in federal court.
The Times article states that federal court records show Reyes should plead guilty on Monday, March 17 before federal U.S. Magistrate Robert Castañeda. The investigation began in early 2012 and Reyes was arrested in November, 2013.

This is a tragic story for everyone involved. The details are sketchy, but it looks like a teenage girl had her boyfriend sneak into the house in the middle of the night, they were in her bedroom, her father heard something, thought the boyfriend was an intruder, and shot him dead. The girl may have lied that she didn't know him.
Neo-Nazis in Kerrville?
Thanks to the reader who suggested a local hate group merits investigation, The White Network, headed by Kerville resident Carolyn Yeager Kahant. The Anti-defamation League (ADL) has an entry on her that starts:
Carolyn Yeager: Neo-Nazi and Holocaust Denial Activist
Carolyn Yeager is a Texas-based neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier who runs her own Web site and claims to be the leader of The White Network. The site is filled with racist and anti-Semitic material, as well as essays promoting motherhood and home-schooling.
Now I don't know if there is a real organization called the White Network, or if it is just a name and a blog. She has a radio show, described in this blurb: "The Heretics’ Hour is a two-hour program currently broadcasting every Monday at 9 p.m. Eastern time (6 p.m. Pacific). Carolyn deals with controversial subject matter: World War II real history, Holocaust revisionism, race and free speech issues, the attack on White culture, Jews and the power they wield in white societies."
She translated a book, Ein Anderer Hitler (Another Hitler) from German to English. She also devotes part of her radio show to reading from and discussing "Hitler's Table Talk."

Sheila Jackson Lee thinks the Constitution is 400 years old
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas proclaimed this week that the Constitution is 400 years old. In other words, its writing would predate the Pilgrims. But while she may be spending her time avidly re-watching the Pocahontas in hopes of getting a glimpse of John Smith jotting down the phrase “We The People,” you can read some more of Jackson Lee’s greatest hits at the Daily Beast, here.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the piece on The White Network. It is important to talk about this organization, and provide some oral "push back" to this outrageous group. Kerrville has a long standing problem with race, religion and hate. I well remember the many letters to the editor published by the KDT which strongly opposed the new Mamacitas because there was a feeling the gold dome was an attempt to project the Moslem beliefs of the owner on the citizens of Kerrville by building a replica of the Dome of the Rock. The greater outrage was that fact that the KDT printed many of these letters. I also clearly remember the local rage when Mo Ranch hosted a youth retreat for the Islamic Society of North America. The list of hate issues in Kerrville is a long one, but there are plenty of fine decent people here. If no one speaks out against the The White Network, it will certainly give the appearance Kerrville is place where neo-Nazis can find refuge and support, and this position would be consistent with some of the past behavior of a portion of the community, hopefully a minority. In the past few days, the White Network has been given national attention from NPR and other sources due to a report by from the Southern Poverty Law Center which cites them and the location in Kerrville. I will be interested to see if there are any comments and if any other locals are willing to speak out against the The White Network, or on the other hand, if Kerrville is just another small, redneck Texas town and all that implies.
How big an organization is the White Network? It is hard to say, but Carolyn Yeager and the White Network are recognized and praised by every white supremacy and Neo-Nazi organization of any prominence, to include Aryan Nations and Stormfront. It is hard to imagine anyone in this movement not knowing of Carolyn, the white network and Kerrville.

It was bad enough that Kerrville is being recognized as the meth-capital of Central Texas, but now Kerrville is on its way to being the Neo-Nazi capital of Central Texas. I remember about ten years ago a guy invited me to come to his church in Center Point, and in the same breath he invited me to come to the KKK meeting somewhere out in that area. I declined, but I wish I had gone to the church because he led me to believe that the church membership and the Klan membership very much overlapped. I am curious to know who these people are?
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart that our Kerrville community is blighted with this kind of ignorance and hate. And that the hate groups in our state outnumber all others in the country according to the Southern Poverty Law Center's 2015 Year in Hate report. Does anyone know if there are any organized groups dedicated to social justice and diversity here?
