I support the bill, but more important than the legislation was the way Moody pitched it to the citizens of Texas, in my opinion. He quoted arrest statistics and noted that the fines collected for the possession do not cover the cost of enforcement, and that MJ was creating an economic drain on law enforcement. I commend Rep Moody’s honesty, but his statements underscore a sad reality in Texas, and that is law enforcement is moving towards a “for profit” business. Implicit in Moody’s argument is the position that law enforcement should focus more on “profit centers”. This is certainly not news to me, but it is the first time a legislator has been honest out the current state of affairs.<br /><br />Kerrville is perhaps the worst venue in Texas regarding policing for money. The Amos Barton Police Chapter is still fresh in my mind, as well as the Mike Chapman era in KCSO.<br /><br />It is no wonder people are losing respect for the system.<br />Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
